CIP Conversion Dropdown Not Showing Assets on Asset Addition Form - Client Facing Article
When converting a Construction in Progress (CIP) project into a fixed asset, you may see an empty dropdown in the Asset Addition Form. This happens when the system cannot identify any assets that meet the requirements for CIP Conversion. This article explains why the dropdown may appear blank and what steps were taken to resolve the issue.
What caused the dropdown to appear blank
1. Available Cost was showing as $0.00
Your CIP assets displayed the correct Acquired Cost, but the Available Cost field showed $0.00. The CIP Conversion dropdown only displays assets with a positive Available Cost. This filter prevents incomplete or zero‑value conversions.
This occurred because the original import populated Acquired Cost correctly but did not copy that value into Available Cost. Our team has logged this as a bug and is working on an update to the importer.
2. The CIP‑10 asset type was not marked as Construction in Progress
Even after correcting the cost values, the dropdown remained empty because the asset type “CIP‑10” was not flagged as Construction in Progress. Only asset types marked with this setting appear in the CIP Conversion dropdown.
What we have already fixed
Available Cost backfill
Our backend team ran a one‑time update to ensure that Available Cost now matches Acquired Cost for all affected CIP assets. This update was applied across your environments to keep everything consistent.
What you need to update on your side
To make the CIP assets appear in the dropdown, update the CIP‑10 asset type:
- Go to Capital Assets → Data Management → Asset Types Management
- Find CIP‑10
- Click the edit icon
- In the Update Asset Type window, check Construction in Progress
- Save your changes
- Return to Capital Assets → Forms → Asset Addition Form
- Select CIP Conversion
- Refresh the page if needed — your CIP assets should now appear
Summary
The blank dropdown was caused by two issues: missing Available Cost values and the CIP‑10 asset type not being marked as Construction in Progress. Both issues have now been resolved, and you should be able to complete CIP conversions normally.
