What Happens After a Budget Amendment Reaches Final Approval?

You submitted a Budget Amendment. You want to know what happens once it reaches final approval. Specifically, you want to know:

• Does it automatically post to the general ledger?
• Can you export the information first before it posts?

Does a Budget Amendment Post to the General Ledger?

No. A Budget Amendment does not create a general ledger posting.

When a Budget Amendment reaches final approval, it updates the revised budget for the affected GL accounts. That is all. No journal entries are created. No transactions are posted to the general ledger.

Think of it this way. The general ledger tracks actual money that has been spent or received. A Budget Amendment only changes the budgeted amounts. These are two separate things.

Can I Export the Amendment Before It Posts?

There is no export option for Budget Amendments at this time.

If you need a copy of the amendment before or after final approval, you can print the page directly from your web browser. This is the current option available.

What If I Need Commission Approval First?

Because a Budget Amendment does not post to the general ledger, there is no risk of an accounting entry being made before your commission has a chance to review it.

The amendment simply updates the revised budget once it clears the final approval in the system. You can use the browser print option to bring a copy to your commission for review.
