Why Am I Getting an Error When Adding a Capital Asset?

Learn why your Asset Addition Form may not be submitting and what to do next

What Is the Problem?

You are trying to submit an Asset Addition Form. You enter the asset's acquisition date and get an error. The form will not go through.

This is not a data entry mistake. It is a configuration issue.

Why Is This Happening?

Your organization has a configured Depreciation Run Begin Year and Month. This is the date the system uses as the starting point for depreciation.

The system checks the acquisition date you enter against that starting point. If the acquisition date is earlier than the configured start date, the form will not submit.

Think of it like a starting line. The system only accepts assets that begin on or after that line. If your asset's date is before it, the system does not know how to process it.

What Do I Do?

You will not be able to fix this on your own. The Depreciation Run Begin Year and Month need to be reviewed and updated by your Client Support team.

Here is what to do:

  1. Note the acquisition date you are trying to enter
  2. Contact the Aclarian Client Support team using the information below
  3. Let them know you are receiving an error on the Asset Addition Form and provide the acquisition date
  4. The team will review your depreciation configuration and work with you to resolve it

Do not attempt to change any configuration settings on your own.

What to Expect

Once your Depreciation Run Begin Year and Month are configured correctly, you will be able to submit the Asset Addition Form without the error.

Your Client Support team will confirm the correct settings with your finance or accounting contact before making any changes.
